Details regarding this ancient keep are lost in the sands of time; even the story of its reclaiming is shrouded in the haze which surrounds the early years of the First Kingdom. It is known that the Explorers and Mardur had a hand in reclaiming it; it is unknown, however, if they cooperated or were rivals during the process.

Elkstone keep stands near the center of Legion territory. It was long held as the personal holding of Baron Dameaion.

At the end of May 7 DY, when the Order of the Abbot dissolved, Elkstone was gifted back to Mardur at the same time Mardur declared war upon Legion, making the keep a volatile block in the tensions between the two countries. In the following month, at the beginning of June, Legion and Mardur both formed armies: Mardur's was held ostensibly in defense, while Legion's army moved to settle the threat newly appeared next to their capitol. The two armies clashed at the fortress, resulting in the Battle of Elkstone Keep.
