The Mercenaries of Bitter Peak is the military junta controlling the large mountainous island in the North and several smaller islands throughout Dargarth. The capitol is the Bitter Peak.

Country History

Long has there been a city of dwarves living under the largest mountain in Dargarth, called Bitter Peak by humans. After losing numerous skirmishes to bandits and the local elves, the dwarves fled, leaving their mountain empty. Local vagrants, bandits, and exiles started living in the ruins, making shanty towns. Eventually, a proper city started to regrow beneath the mountain, and from it, a militia to defend them.
The militia soon took control as the ruling party.
Several Lords rose to power and took control of smaller sections of the island. The Twisting Lord, Lucien, drew all of Dargarth's attention to the mountain in a deceitful vie for power and succeeded. He lead the mercenaries for many months.
Following the events of the Lords of Bitter Peak event, the forces under Lucien's rule solidified the loose society of vagrants. He designed a flag, and they carried it everywhere they went. The black flag of Bitter Peak became infamous on the island in the north.
After encountering the other people of the country, the military started offering their battle experience for money, and called themselves the Mercenaries of Bitter Peak. This sword-for-hire work has brought even more wealth into the tundra land that this group call home.
They expanded. They captured the lands to the east of the mountains, opened up old trade routes to the south, and claimed the island to the west. The ranger, Uulmshar, suggested expanding beyond the island. His spies reported that the Knights of Solaris -the nobles ruling the Isles of Langerhausen- were weak and given to bouts of hedonism and apathy, and did not return any diplomatic attempts. Uulmshar gladly lead the rally to gather their men for war, which led to the events of the Day of Two Sieges.
Betrayal at the battle for the Langerhausen Capital started an investigation, which led back to the Bitter Peak council. They were dealt with, and replaced, by Lucien's leading generals.
The current location of Lord Lucien is unknown, and a council of his military advisers rules in his stead.
